Heat sinking compound or thermal paste dries up after many years of service under extreme temperatures. The hottest part of any Power Electronic Equipment is on the die inside the semiconductor device. This part is not accessible but the heat is removed via a thermally conducting paste that forms a heat flow path from the semiconductor device (IGBT, MOSFET and SCR etc) to the heatsink. When this paste dries out the device can no longer get rid of its heat and performance degrades until it blows up or catches fire. According to the Arrhenius equation the lifetime of a component halves for every 10 degrees increase in temperature.

10 year (or less) maintenance should include the reapplication of heatsink compound under the main switching components. We can provide this service for you and increase the lifetime of your Power Electronic Equipment.
